My Personal StatementEducare, the root word for education is the process of “bringing forth” or “bringing up.” I believe that the primary goal of education is to unearth the inner goals, talents and innate genius that is unexpressed within a child and bring it “out” or “up” into consciousness. I believe in problem posing education that empowers students to grapple with authentic problems and pursue ‘real answers’ which create solutions to issues that affect the community and threaten the very fabric of democracy. I believe that education is the practice of freedom. I also believe that children should feel appreciated, respected and have a sense of self- worth within the classroom environment.
As a teacher my goal is:
Education must embody an ongoing practice of democracy, inquiry, praxis, critical reflection and takes into account the ecological factors that influences the growth of the child.
