We had so much fun. They kids arrived at Kidspace Children's Museum with so much anticipation and eagerness. They had a blast learning about the Native Americans. Here are a few pictures I snapped from our time at Kidspace. Hi Parents,
We took our spelling test today and I normally score them and hand them back the same day, but today I had back to back meetings this afternoon and I didn't get back from my final meeting until 4:30. This means that most of the students did not get their scored spelling test back today. I was able to hand back the test to a few students who were around after school. For those students who didn't get their spelling test back, they will get it on Monday morning. If you have any questions please email me. Thank you, Mrs. Queenie In class today I reviewed how to"Shop" for books. Please make sure your child is not just picking books because it's their "level". They have been taught that their is personal power in selecting a book that will:
1. Teach them something new. 2. Be enjoyable. 3. Interest them and sustain their attention. Student's shop for books most of the time during class time, but I know their are times when parents help pick out a few books. I wanted to let you know what we reviewed on Friday, so that you can use this process with them as well. How to choose a book: 1. Look at the title- Based on the title, are you interested? Are you intrigued? Ask yourself questions and make predictions about what you think the story will be about. 2. Look at the pictures on the front cover- Do the pictures give you more clues about what the story may be about? 3. Look at the book blurb on the back- Some books have a little blurb on the back which gives you a quick snapshot of the stories plot. After you read this blurb ask yourself, "Am I interested in this story?" or "Does it support my goal?" *I would rather students choose a book that they are interested in as oppose to just picking a book for the sake of picking a book. 4. Open the book and read the first page- Can you read the words on the first page? If not, the book may be too challenging for you. If you can read all of the words, then this book might be a perfect match for you. *The goal is to carefully choose a book that they really want to read. The book should keep them interested and help build their stamina for reading. Parents-
Our mornings are rich with literacy games, grammar rules and filled with conversations about linking verbs, synonyms and alphabetical order. This dynamic 30-minute work period is filled with critical information that your child may be missing if they are showing up to class ten minutes late two to three times per week. Morning work is work that is done in class and will not be sent home to "make-up". Student participation and academic gains during this time will be reflected on their progress report. As a gentle reminder, we meet at the pole outside our class when the music starts and we start our morning work at 9:00am sharp. If you have any questions or need to meet with me, please send me an email to schedule a time to discuss your needs. I want to ensure that I am giving your matter my full attention, as I am unavailable once school starts at 8:55 a.m. I cannot say thank you enough for supporting your child and giving them the best opportunity to be great leaders and amazing people. Mrs. Queenie Good Evening,
As a reminder, we are going to Kidspace Children's Museum tomorrow. Please be sure to bring your money ($9) and a signed permission slip if you haven't done so already. Please have your child at school on time tomorrow. We are leaving the school grounds promptly at 8:45am-as we have to travel to Pasadena. We will not hold the bus for late students. We are schedule to participate in a DISCOVERY Program at Kidspace at 9:45 am. Therefore, our early departure time accounts for traffic, as well as a bathroom break and a quick snack upon arrival. Please have your child wear their NVLA T-Shirt and bring a lunch with a disposable bottle of water. I don't want the kids to bring their personal water bottles just in case they leave them at Kidspace. If you have any questions please email me. Thank you, Ms.Queenie |
